Real members, real matches, real stories

We are young and still growing, and we are not about to fabricate happy couples to decorate a webpage. So here is the straight version: what meeting someone on Enabled Dating actually looks like — and a standing invitation to send us yours once it happens.

The finest thing about dating somewhere built for disabled people is the part nobody puts in the advertising. You start talking to someone and there is no flinch, no interrogation, no private agonising over whether to mention your disability before they will commit to a coffee. All of that is behind you before the first message lands, which leaves the actual business of the thing: working out whether you like each other.

What members find here refuses to be one tidy category. A partner, sometimes. A steady companion. A first relationship after an injury or a diagnosis rewrote the plan. Or simply better company and conversations that take less out of you. Some people get there in a fortnight and others take the better part of a year, and neither is doing it wrong. Nobody is keeping score. It is just a calmer place to meet people who already understand the part everyone else has to have explained to them.

Coming back after years away, after an acquired disability, or after one too many bruising encounters on the mainstream apps, that ease counts for an enormous amount. We are not claiming magic and we are not making promises. It is simply a fairer starting line than most of the alternatives.

While the first full stories are still being lived, we can at least tell you what the openings look like, because we watch them happen weekly. An opening message about a shared boxset rather than a diagnosis. A reply landing two days late with an apology for a rough week, answered with "god, same" rather than silence. Two weeks of easy conversation, then a phone call nobody dreaded, then a coffee somewhere step-free that required no justification from either party. Utterly unremarkable from the outside — and that, precisely, is the point. For a great many of our members, unremarkable is the one thing dating has never been permitted to be.

Some of these beginnings will never turn into romance, and that is not a failure. They become the friend who texts on hospital days without being asked. The standing Sunday phone call. The person who simply understands and does not need it spelled out. Those count every bit as much, and when members write to tell us about them, they will earn their place on this page alongside any wedding photo.
